Everyone thought that Amazon was crazy, launching an iPad competitor when so many other companies had tried and failed. Well, according to latest profit figures released it would appear that Amazon have triumphed.
During the first quarter that the Kindle Fire was available, nine out of 10 of the top selling products on Amazon.com were digital products, including Kindle e-books, movies, music and apps and shares in Amazon surged by more than 15%.
Reading between the lines, I don’t think it can just be down to the sale of the Kindle Fire in particular, but Kindle sales in general. I can see people with a Kindle Fire downloading movies, but I think as ownership of Kindles increases it puts them in view of other people that maybe wouldn’t have thought of buying one before. Suddenly they see how easy and seamless Amazon have made owning a Kindle and downloading great books and games and suddenly they’re not just a toy for techie geeks anymore…they are for everyone! Plus, the lower price tag of the Amazon Kindle Fire versus the Apple iPad, it makes it hard not to pick the Fire, especially if you are looking for a gift for someone, or something for your kids to use too.
